Are your new year resolutions for mere beautification or they deep dive to the core?

An evening. Sun setting down. A peaceful weekend. Pleasant winter weather of pink shades. And a peaceful walk in the garden. No stress in mind, no regrets, no worries about catching some timings. Just the green trees, the walking track, the beautiful evening and me.

While walking in the garden, I saw beautiful pictures being painted on the walls of the garden. The pictures were really breathtaking. And while I was moving forward, my eyes stopped overs a broken bench.

Well, in our lives also, if we check, we realize that, sometimes we are so engaged in the beautification that we don’t even realize that the core part is broken or in fact, in some cases, it is even missing.

In the context of the social media, it is more relevant. We click our pictures and then apply multiple filters on them, to make them beautiful. We visit a restaurant and click its pictures to look spending beautiful times, on the social media.

Indeed, beauty is important, rather it is essential. Without it, the world will become monotonous. But the amount of reflections and efforts that we spend on the beautification, are also deserved by the core. The core means the core character, the core values, the core capabilities, the core perspectives, the core thought processes and so on — depending on the context we are applying this glass.

When we apply that makeup and ensure that we are looking beautiful, do we ask whether I’m feeling beautiful — irrespective of the looks? When we ensure that we are well dressed and are ready to impress others, do we ask whether my thoughts, my mind is well dressed? Is it well nurtured? Is it even able to impress myself? Do my thoughts make me proud of myself? Do my acts make me stand fearlessly in front of the mirror? Is my mind capable of embracing the beautiful thoughts and actions, just like those branded party wears, even if the thoughts and actions seem to be difficult to implement? Is my mind strong enough to discard the thoughts and the actions that are easy and tempting to implement but ultimately are the downgrading and destructive in nature?

On the evening of the new year, many of us make resolutions. We indeed want to work on our dreams, make forward movements in the right directions to achieve all of them. Some of the dreams might be just related to the beautification in our lives. Again it is essential to add up that beauty in our lives. But how many times do we think from the core aspects? How much of my goals and plans of action are meant for the core aspects? Did I consider those aspects while setting the goals at the first place? And once set, how much committed I’m going to be towards those actions? So again, here if you see, even to fulfil those beautification goals, you will need the commitment — the core. If that core itself is fragile, even the beautification dreams will appear out of reach!

At the same time, isn’t it also important to think about the world, my surroundings, my neighbors, animals, nature, when setting my goals? We will always work on the goals that will add up beauty to our lives or strengthen our core aspects. But how can we contribute to others’ lives? Is it always going to be just about I, me and myself or those resolutions will also have some space for others?

Well, in my opinion, contributing in the others’ lives is one of the greatest things. But even if we are not able to think or implement at that level, we can definitely ensure that we do not worsen their spaces, at least.

So this new year, lets make a resolution to spread joy and happiness in everyone's life, whoever you meet the whole year. Lets be a reason for someone to start believing in the goodness, in love. Lets be a reason for someone to be astonished by seeing the simplicity and the purity. Lets be a reason for someone to not just start appreciating the beauty but just make the things beautiful by mere perspective. Lets be a reason for someone to at least start understanding the unselfishness.

There is already a lot of misery and pain in the world. If we cannot really reduce it, lets at least not add up to it, for anyone! ☺

Have a blissful, positive new year with a lot of goals, plans of actions and yes, reflections too!

Happy new year 2023!
